Molecular Biology Systems (MBS) has signed an exclusive distribution agreement in which Canon BioMedical will market and sell MBS’s NEXTGENPCR instrument, consumables, and accessories in the U.S. and Canada, Canon Biomedical said today.
Canon BioMedical has agreed to distribute the NEXTGENPCR instrument, as well as related consumables, and associated accessories through the agreement, whose value was not disclosed.
The instrument—whose name is derived from “next-generation PCR”—is designed to reduce the DNA amplification procedure from hours to just minutes; a three-step, 30-cycle protocol to amplify a 100-base pair fragment can be completed in less than two minutes, according to Canon BioMedical, compared with between 50 and 150 minutes for traditional PCR instruments that have relied on Peltier elements to heat and cool an aluminum or silver block, accommodating 96 or 384 polypropylene tubes holding PCR-mixes.
NEXTGENPCR is designed to run 30 cycles and 3 temperatures within two minutes, while consuming just 25 watts of power, and offers 96-well or 384-well plates in the same machine.
Canon BioMedical said it will initially distribute the NEXTGENPCR instrument in the U.S., at multiple upcoming conferences. In September, MBS announced a series of distribution deals of undisclosed value,with PreMed Lab of China, Pronto Diagnostics of Israel, Ybux of the Czech Republic, Albiogen of Russia, Camlab of the U.K., and Isogen Life Science, which has operations in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain.
